World Partnership Walk

The World Partnership Walk is Canada’s largest annual event raising money and awareness to end global poverty. It is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hv3Cbt2CqQ and see what else this great event helps AKFC achieve.

This all started when a few women in Vancouver in 1985 decided that they wanted to change the world for the better, so they walked. They encouraged 1,000 other walkers to join them and raised $55,000 in donations. Thirty years later the World Partnership Walk has raised over $90 million that has been sent to aid people all around the world and reduce poverty. How can we help? We can help by raising funds, or donating to friends and families who have already started campaigning or getting involved and participating in the walk to create awareness.
100% of donations made to the World Partnership Walk go directly to fund Aga Khan Foundation Canada international development projects.Projects are identified and implemented by local communities, targeting areas of greatest need and providing long-term sustainable solutions – like revitalizing a rural economy, ensuring clean water and sanitation, strengthening community-based organizations and educating new generations of girls and women.Funds raised by the Walk also help AKFC to leverage additional support from major donors like the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD). This means that the impact of every dollar you raise is multiplied many times over.
I was quite surprised to learn that almost half the world, nearly 3 billion people, lives on less than $2.00 a day. Also, was touched with the story of Seera, is a nine-year old girl in Afghanistan who, thanks to programs supported by Canadians and through events like the Walk, can now attend school, read and write, and is part of a new generation of girls and women looking forward to a brighter future. I can relate Seera’s story

My brother and I have been involved in the World Partnership Walk since 2010. I was just 7 years old and my brother Husnain was 4 years old. With the help of our parents, we collected $320 in donation from about 20 donors. To date we have raised more than $5,000 and our contact list has 270 members and increasing every year.

Total Funds Collected:
2010 - $320
2011 - $400
2012 - $700
2013 - $1,120
2014 - $1,320
2015 - $1,235
Total: $5,095
Also, please visit our team’s website, Upper Canada College, the school that I will be joining next year and which my brother hopes to join in future.

Thank you to all the donors who have continuously support us in the past 5 years. On Sunday, May 24th we walked for 5 km.

Gold Cup 2015

Gold Cup 2015 Tournament was a challenging one as we were facing older children, physical more stronger and taller than both of us. But, both of us managed to score some memorable goals. As usual Husnain scored 2 remarkable goals with one assist. He has been promoted to higher age group and is the youngest in the team. I scored one goal and created opportunities for a few goals.
